As with many cities, the public transportation system within San Diego is excellent. One of the most popular ways that people travel around the city is also one of the most unique. San Diego has a trolley system for which the city has actually become famous. Many images of San Diego are shown with a trolley in the background. Their trolley system stops at many popular tourist locations, including many hotels. It goes all the way from Old Town to Seaport Village, going through many places in between. While it costs slightly more than a bus ticket, it is worth going on at least once on any trip to San Diego.

Their bus system is more extensive than the trolley system, covering more ground for less money. The bus routes travel throughout the city to places that the trolleys cannot reach. Although more traditional, the buses are still a convenient way to get around San Diego. For longer trips, San Diego has a train system that runs up and down the coast. It will cost more than a bus ticket, but it is much faster and far more comfortable to ride on a train than on a bus for a long trip.
