What is the Season of Service?

Southern California churches, businesses, and civic agencies have been serving their communities for years. The Season of Service is a historic partnership of these entities to serve at the same time through a season to show their neighbors an unprecedented display of love.

What is a Season of Service project?

Partnership projects and volunteer opportunities for the Season of Service must meet a tangible need in the community. Projects are for the purpose of improving the life of another person or group of people in a physical or emotional way as a service project.

San Diego CityFest, the Season of Service, and the Luis Palau Association do not allow opportunities to be posted that are primarily focused on fundraising, public and private advocacy for or demonstrations against specific moral and/or religious political positions, organizations, political parties and/or political candidates. Posted projects of this nature will be flagged as inappropriate and removed.

What are the Season of Service impact areas?

San Diego CityFest has several Season of Service project impact areas. They’ll get you thinking creatively about where and how you can serve.

  • Homelessness
  • Hunger
  • Schools
  • Military
  • Mentoring
  • Existing Projects

For more information on these specific areas download the SOS Emphasis Sheet.

Why fill out a Partnership Plan?

Filling out a Partnership Plan allows all of Southern California to see how your church or organization is serving our community through the Season of Service. It also offers a simple way for people to contact you if they want to get involved.

With your Plan, you:
• Provide crucial information to your project volunteers (date, location, time, etc.)
• Publicize your project for FREE
• Recruit even more volunteers without lifting a finger (until the project itself, of course).

Complete a Partnership Plan for your project(s) NOW!

How do I get my church / organization/ business involved?

  1. Investigate different project / service ideas that your group can organize and carry out.
  2. Download the SOS Emphasis Sheet for ideas and opportunities.
  3. Identify a project coordinator to facilitate your project(s).
  4. Fill out your Partnership Plan online.

How do I recruit volunteers?

Fill out a Partnership Plan for your project. (See "Why fill out a Partnership Plan?"above) Other ideas to help promote your project and recruit volunteers:

  • Announce your project in person at your church or organization
  • Post the opportunity on a community bulletin board in your church or organization
  • Send an email blast
  • Link to your project plan on this website from your church/organization’s website
  •  Pass out flyers in your neighborhood or near the project site
  • Offer an incentive for volunteering, like a free T-shirt (see above), a potluck/picnic/barbeque before or after the project, give-aways throughout the service project (like bottles of sunscreen, chap stick, gift certificates, Frisbees, etc.), and more.  Be creative!
